Expect the unexpected with these “out of the box” art encounters for young artists ages 6-10.
Occurring once a month in the newly remodeled Glab Family Art Studio, smART Saturdays offer a fun opportunity to connect with your child through flexible open-ended art projects designed to encourage creativity and thinking outside the box. Instruction and project guidelines will be provided, but individual expression is encouraged. Instructors: Amethyst Barron & Caitlin Donald
Winter/Spring 2018 Class Schedule:
January 27th – Mini-Puppets
Kick-off our 2018 smART Saturdays program with puppet making! Materials and instructions will be provided for participating children and their adult caregivers to make their own unique jointed puppets to take home.
February 17th – Stickers, Buttons, and Magnets, Oh My!
In February, fight off dreary Winter days by making bright and colorful keepsakes of your very own design. Materials and instructions will be provided for the creation of custom pin-back badge buttons, refrigerator magnets, and stickers, for participants to take home. A hand-operated badge maker will be available for use, guided by an instructor.
March 17th – Mini-Terrariums
Welcome the approach of Spring by creating Mini-Terrarium scenes using provided materials! Children and their adult caregivers will design their own nature-inspired scene using provided materials in the form of a tiny terrarium. Note: No live plants or materials will be used in this project.
April 21st – Buggy Bouquets
Celebrate April flowers and the Birthday of Iowan artist Grant Wood by creating your very own “Lilies of the Alley” using a wide variety of provided material options. Children and their adult caregivers will construct a vase “arrangement” of paper flowers, butterflies, caterpillars, bugs, or whatever makes you think of Spring!
